Safe working procedures and outdoor activities for young people

Day 1

  1. 12:00 Arrival – Set up campsite – Lunch
  2. 13:00 Camp orientation, organisation and hygiene
  3. 13:30 Safe use of basic cutting tools and UK knife law
  4. 15:00 Tea break
  5. 15:30 Fire lighting skills, safety, feather sticks, fire lays and storm kettles
  6. 17:30 Evening meal – camp tidy – Free time

Day 2

  1. 09:00 Start – Knots and cordage
  2. 10:00 Shelter construction – site selection and safety, types of shelter
  3. 12:30 Lunch
  4. 13:00 Shelter construction – as above
  5. 15:00 Tea break
  6. 15:30 Primitive weapons – Make a modern version of a throwing stick
  7. 16:30 Fire wood collection and prep for evening fire
  8. 17:00 Evening meal
  9. 18:30 Enjoy evening meal – camp tidy – Free time

Day 3

  1. 09:00 Start -Water collection and purification from a woodland environment
  2. 10:00 Tarp shelters
  3. 12:00 Lunch
  4. 12:30 Group safety bag and contents
  5. 13:00 Safe campfire cooking for young people
  6. 13:30 Select and set up a safe campsite for a group – make a hot drink (Test)
  7. 15:30 Break camp – clear site – LEAVE NO TRACE
  8. 16:00 Course review
  9. 16:30 Leave site with new skills

This weekend or mid-week training course is a basic introduction to bushcraft skills. The aim of the course is to enable you to learn new outdoor skills to a competent standard to pass on these skills to young people in a safe and challenging way.

Cost £295 per person, min number of students 4, max 10
This course is self catering. Water, tea and coffee are provided
